Poem: Understand. (10/09/2022)
This poem is based off of a story I am writing which is set in Ancient Rome (around 70 BC)
You don’t understand.
and perhaps you can’t.
Not when the only captivity you know of is under the arena’s sand.
You only see it as a cage when the key is in another’s hand.
Try as you might-
You only know of hands bound,
teeth clenched,
unable to make a sound.
The arena is a prison, and you only know how to fight.
But there is more to the world-
things not visible from the gaps of your cell.
It matters not where you dwell
up on land or down here in hell.
We are both prisoners of our own personal jailers
and you dont understand
because you can’t.
We are the same, you and I.
and perhaps you cant see it just yet-
but one day you will
